BELL ON THE SAILBOAT AT HEL 2010 June 21, 2010 InTrips The sailboat at Hel was discovered in May 2008 by Leszek Legat Rafał Palucha, Sebastian Popek and Tomek Stachura. It lies at 64 m of depth very close to the Hel penninsula. In 2008, we shot a few hundred photos and a few photos there : In 2009, a few official dives took place there and unfortunately also some “unofficial” ones, the effect of which was disappearance of the steering wheel and many trinkets. This year, we came up with an idea to conduct, along with the Central Maritime Museum, a comprehensive stock-taking of the wreck, so as to lead to identification of the unit. We obtained all necessary consents and on 10 June the first dive took place, during which we managed to find the bell near the mast. We were even more happy, because the wreck did not have many elements that we had seen and shot previously. CMM made a decisions on immediate excavation of the bell. We had to obtain a special consent for excavation. Once again, we went to the wreck to film and take photos of the bell in peace. Then, in the presence of Iwona Pomian from CMM the bell was pulled to the surface There is a big chance that during cleaning, the name of the unit will appear. The bell will be available this year in CMM in Gdańsk. It will also be lent to us for the duration of BALTICTECH in November 2010. Finally the bell was cleaned and preserved by employees of the Central Maritime Museum, unfortunately in spite of great eagerness and efforts, no the inscription was found. The sailboat is still unidentified;-) The bell along with a few photos and description will be exhibited CMM in Gdańsk in the summer of 2010.
